A nice find today as misinolvidablestebeos posted the run of the masked historical hero, Mascara Verde.  This was published in 1949.  B&W interior with colour cover. Good swashbuckling action.  You can find them here:-

Thanks to the power of work hoover has put into this we now have access to compilations of s.f. stories from the British story papers.  These range from the early '30's till, in our case, the late '50's.
All good wholesome fun.  Pulp style stories but very British, in publications which are sometimes described as peculiarly English.  Which is odd given that many of these stories appeared in a Scottish company's comics.

For ages I've been trying to find scans of the classic British newspaper strip, Buck Ryan, which appeared first in 1937 with story by Don Freeman and art by one of my favourites, Jack Monk.  EAGZA have produced 2 vols in Spanish.  I have one of them, the second.  Again grateful thanks to http://misinolvidablestebeos.blogspot.co.uk
So, if the only way we can read some of these great strips is this way, that'll have to do.

I've just this minute downloaded the file and it opened fine.  Not sure what's causing the problem.  It is taking a long time for the software to show the file properly or add the illo.

I'll take a look, probably improperly formatted, there have been a lot of those lately. Usually the prob is that instead of all being jpg one or more files is png or something and that mucks up the works. The fix is usually to DL the file and unzip it then do a bulk edit on all the files that re-formats them all to jpg.

I just Downloaded and noticed right off the top a non-uniform file naming schema, that can cause problems too.

no two cbz readers seem to prioritize file names the same way. Thus a book that looks ok on your tablet, may be out of order on CB+ or in Cdisplay.

going forward, you should open these books up and do some exploratory surgery, making sure all the file extensions end with .jpg

also make sure they are all named the same way  ie scan-001, scan-002, etc

Realising we had a small pile of individual issues in the compilation of Hardi les Gars, Mark suggested we extract them and host them individually.  As usual, he's on the ball while I couldn't see beyond the compilation. All done, so help yourselves.  Just a note that there are 2 pages of the text story missing from #6.
These comics date from Nov. 1945 - June 1946 and they're bursting with adventure and fast moving stories.

Great to see these in their own section. Lots of good stuff in Hardi les Gars, notably translations of the Virus stories, "Mage of the Black Forest" and "The V Pole." This is the series in which Italian artist Walter Molino was Francofied into "V. Molineaux."

Holy macaroni crash, you really are a fount of all comics knowledge!  I didn't know that about Molino and assumed he was French. Yes some really tasty stuff in HLG.  All thanks to Starman and his site for providing CB+ with some excellent, and important, old French comics.
Today I've uploaded an illustration of Freelance done for me by a customer of aka all those years ago, John Culbard.  There's a Phantom illo. in one of my files - somewhere.  John was, and probably still is, an all-round good guy.
Found 2 other illos and have added them to the file plus John's note of just who the heroes on the 3rd page are, but I'm sure you lot will spot them right off.

I should add that this is a product of it's time and some of the language would be offensive today, as would the violence against women.
The early Monk art is more basic and cruder and would improve considerably over time.
