blastaar's uploads
« on: March 18, 2010, 12:13:44 PM »

I'm just starting out here, and my first uploads are:

Crime Does Not Pay 103 (revision of narfstar's digital camera version)
Crime Does Not Pay 130
Justice Traps the Guilty 65

I'm an academic who studies comics. I'm now working on a project on the 1945-1949 Charltons, and eventually I'll be uploading scans of JVJ's copies of Jack-in-the-Box, Zoo Funnies, and Cowboy Western, along with some Catholic Comics (apparently packaged by the same shop as the Charltons) as well as a couple of issues of Tim McCoy that I've come across. (Thanks again to the incredibly generous JVJ for making his comics available.)

Any comments on improving the quality of my scans will be greatly appreciated.

Added: Picture Parade #1 from the Gilberton Co.

Andy finds out that just because things are radioactive, it doesn't mean that they're bad, so he shouldn't worry about that atomic cannon being tested 30 miles away from his Nevada home.

Just added:

Calling All Kids #25, missing 6 pages.
I knew it was raggedy, but I didn't realize it was actually missing pages until I was in the middle of scanning. FWIW.

Got the file up but booted it on the label--"Call" All Kids.   :-[  That's what I get for using the computer when brain-dead from yard work.  Can a kind stranger fix it so I don't break something trying to get it right? Thanks.

A couple of scans for a previously empty Charlton slot:

Tim McCoy 17, December-January, 1948. c2c.
Tim McCoy 19, April, 1949.  33 of 36 pages.  (Not mine--mostly small scans.)

I'm leaving on a trip until the end of the month, but I wanted to justify my membership in the JVJ scanner's club by actually posting at least one JVJ scan before I left, so a c2c paper scan of Jack-in-the-Box #11 has been added to the Charlton section, replacing a digital camera version. (Thanks for that, narfstar!)

Once I get back, do final editing, and add JVJ's info cards, there will be much, much more to come.

Here come the JVJ Charltons
« Reply #22 on: May 31, 2010, 11:39:12 PM »

Finally getting some of the early Charltons from the JVJ collection up--just added:

Jack-in-the-Box 12
(48 of 52 pages, missing centerfold.  This may just duplicate Narfstar's earlier scan, also missing the centerfold, it appears, but now with JVJ's info added.)

Jack-in-the-Box 14
Jack-in-the-Box 15
Jack-in-the-Box 16

All JVJs, all c2c.

If anybody has a Jack-in-the-Box 13, I'd dearly love to see a scan.

Also, if anyone would be willing to do some editing, I have the raws for Jack-in-the-Box #1 (a one-shot--the series I posted continues the Yellowjacket numbering), but they're foxed beyond my meager editing capabilities.  JVJ explained how to fix them, but I'm pretty hopeless past "auto levels" in Photoshop.

blastaar, I have taken a swipe at the editing the scans and posted a 4 page test so you can look, called 'JITB Test.cbz' in your FTP folder.  If you like it, I can continue (after I catch up with narfstar's pile  :) ). The scans on this are very high quality, as is the original book.

Sweet job on the other JITB's; I am HIGHLY enjoying them
