Happy Birthday today to Ron Goulart who is 88 years young

Ron is one of that rare breed a comics historian. I find it a bit strange that in this modern world where self-publishing is easy, there are still so few books about our favourite past-time.

Ron's career is much more than that, of course - stretching from Vampirella, Flash Gordon through the Phantom, Star Hawks and Battlestar Galactica to Groucho Marx, Ace Detective (a particular favourite of mine - I'm also fond of the Harry Challenge books)

IMHO, Ron Goulart's Great History of Comic Books (1986) is the best single-volume history of the medium.

Ron Goulart also covered pulp magazines in Cheap Thrills: An Informal History of the Pulp Magazines (1972).

I wholeheartedly agree mopee167. Happy Birthday Mr. Goulart and thank you for your contributions in making people aware and awakening them to these great works. Speaking for myself, it was this very book that ignited the conflagration of interest I have in the Golden-Age and more importantly working to resurrect and continue that legacy.
