Magnus is probably the best buy in comics. You get a full 22 page new story plus a SA reprint. To top it off the new stuff is fantastic. It actually has some good old charm. At HeroesCon a couple years ago I asked Dan Didio why he did not keep any of the charm of the Charlton characters and he more or less admitted he did not know how. Well Shooter seems to know how. Stop trying to be moody and modern. Have fun and be a little sappy. I hope he keeps it up and it sells enough to keep going.

Yes, I am two weeks behind. Unforeseen issues brought that about, but I promise to be caught up soon.

As for today:

The Mighty Crusader #2 (of 6)

Steve Rogers: Super-Solder #2 (of 4)

And I believe the Marvelman Classics Vol. 1 hardcover is out also, along with a new issue of Black Terror.

I do hope Marvelman h/c is out and that my pal remembered to order it for me. Bought some comics in Stirling today incl. Black Terror 11 - I'm assuming that's the one you're talking about. I've only had a chance to read Birds of Prey 3 - that's the replacement for the misprinted one that turned up last month and it was quite exciting.  I'll get round to #4 this evening.  Also picked up Marvalman Finest 2, Zatana 4, Black Cat 2, Kato 3 and something else that I can't recall.  No Magnus #1. Guy in the shop said it never arrived.  OOPS.

Narf is totally correct! I am very pleased with Dark Horse's Solar/Magnus offerings.

Got my copy of Magnus yesterday and really enjoyed it. You're right, Narf- looks like Shooter was having fun with the character and not getting too dark. They also kept Magnus' clean-cut look which, to me, was part of his "charm". Manning's reprints were a great way to round out the issue. Certainly worth the wait! Cheers, Bowers

I read Mystery Society 2 today and it was as good as 1. The series is jumping way up on my look forward to read list.

I'm becoming very confused re. Magnus.  This title isn't out yet but some of you seem to have had it for a while.  I checked with a big store on Glasgow on Saturday and was assured it was not yet released and my pal in his back issue shop ckecked on line and - same result.  We get comics in the U.K. same time, or a day leter than you in N.America.  Just have to wait.
Green Hornet GA remastered was great fun and I can't wait to get the next one.
Zatanna 4 is good entertainment and seems to be keeping up a decent standard.
Sixth Gun #2 was enjoyable with zombies, mystical six guns and all sorts of nasty characters.
Marvelman F.F. is just great.  How good to read those old, fun stories again and on newsprint (or similar)
Black Cat #2  - a reasonable read with enough mystery to keep me intrigued.
Black Terror #11 -  That's it. I'm finished. Can't take any more. Cancelling my order for this this week.

I do not know what the problem is with Magnus. Does Diamond distribute to the UK distributer who then distributes to the UK? Diamond has not impressed me at all. I often get books weeks later than others. They care little about the small comic shops. Many times I am the only one at my shop getting the titles I get. Must be too much trouble for them to send each issue so they wait and pull a couple of months together.

Paw, it's difficult to find all the titles in my area as well. I usually have to alternate between two comic shops that have different distributors. Of course, either one could order them for me, but I like to see comics before I buy. That's why this topic is so very useful to me-- I don't end up ordering stuff I won't like. Thanks to all for reviews and opinions- please keep 'em coming! Cheers, Bowers

Yes bowers, I prefer to see titles before I buy and I use a tiny, wee, new shop in Stirling for my main buying (support your local comic shop) and A1 in Glasgow for the odd other things that a bigger shop can stock.  There are also F.P's in Glasgow and Edinburgh but I don't use them and neither do many of my friends.  Narfstar, Diamond seems to be the only distributor in the UK. Despite being an American co. they appear to love the idea of a monopoly and you're correct, the bigger shops get a better service.  Or so it seems.  When I was involved in a comic shop, we at least had a choice between Capital City and Titan (a British co.).  Then C.C went bust, I think, and we used a new British co. -  Neptune.  It went away as well after a few years but I recall the meeting in London with Steve Geppi when he announced he was taking over Titan, and at that point, it left UK. with one distributor and when I asked him how he felt about a monopoly, he smiled and avoided the question.  Still doesn't clear up why last Saturday Magnus was listed on websites as not yet released, anywhere.

Belted away up to Edinburgh today to see if my Marvelman hardback had arrived. It had.  Brilliant.  What a delight, between the Green Hornet G.A reprint and this book, to read stories with heroes going about their business and no angst, wringing of hands, soul searching, baring their souls, looking mean and nasty or overt violence.  And, most important, this is fun.

Just got my copy of Miserable Dastards graphic novel. A great fun read. Most of you probably never heard of Dial C for comics. www.dialcforcomics.com they have only had two publications. But both have been great reads. Their first mini-series was Return of the Super Pimps. No it was not a porno comics  :o but a superhero team. Then the Miserable Dastards graphic novel that my LCS could not get for me so I ordered it from Richard. If you went to ComicCon you might have met him. Richard is a very good writer. He is too little known to get nominated for any awards though. The books are still available from the website and I suggest you give them a try.

My favorite goodie picked up this week at my LCS was Dark Horse's Little Lulu's Pal Tubby Vol 1: The Castaway and Other Stories which reprints the first six Tubby comics originally published by Dell in 1952-53.   All are written by John Stanley, who also does full art on most of the issues.  These stories are all longer stories, (some of them book length) as compared to the shorter story format of the regular Little Lulu comic, and allow for some rousing adventure fun from the intrepid Tubby.  Great stuff!

Tripp (Lulu artist) drew #1 (4C381) Stanley drew the remaining 4C issues plus #5.  Lloyd White started with #6 and drew all the rest of the issues, I believe.

Thanks for the info on Lloyd White (Dark Horse missed his credit for #6) as he is a name I not familiar with.  I've wondered about who did the work on a number of those Tubby stories that I've seen over the years.  Now I have a name to put to those stories.

Visited Banjaxx Comics ths morning and picked up stuff in my standing order.  Including Last Phantom #1.
I've just gone off on one about this on Chronicle Chamber, as it's a poor effort, especially for a phan like me.  There seem to me to be problems with the faces in some panels, pacing problems, some badly drawn figures and that problem with the "berry juice" or whatever.  It's all a bit naff and again, goes to prove that shiny paper, colours, bad language, hype and an Alex Ross cover don't necessarily make an entertaining, professional comic.
Finally got a copy of Magnus.  Holy macaroni! What a difference.  As you all promised it would be.
Still to read Rawhide Kid and Jack Staff.

I apologize to you all for letting my end of this lag. Family and personal issues put me off track for a bit.

The new Green Hornet is out from Dynamite, along with Green Hornet Annual #1.

Marvelman Family's Finest #3 (of 6) & Captian America: Forever Allies #2 (of 4) are both out from Marvel.

The new Freedom Fighters series from DC is on the shelves, along with the new JSA: All-Stars.

Hopefully I will get some reviews written on these along with the backlog I have sitting around.

Btw, anyone order the Canadian Golden Age retro -- Moonstone's Northern Guard series? Merlin, Ghost Woman, Freelance, Commander Steele, Johnny Canuck, Dr Destine,Nanook, Zor the Mighty, Blackwing, Purple Rider and Red Rogue, along with a host of characters that I've never heard of are hitting the shelves soon.

Glad to see you back, Boox! I also picked up my copy of Marvelman 3 and was not disappointed. Also got some special orders- Capt. Swing 1 and some Disneys I'd missed. That Northern Guard  series sounds pretty intriguing- I'll see if my LCS can order it for me. Cheers, Bowers

Not sinus-sick this coming weekend (knock on wood) so I hope to start knocking out some comments.

Since Monday was a holiday in the U.S., new comics came out today at my store:

Invaders Now! #1 (of 5) is new from the Marvel-Dynamite alliance and looks good to a nerd like myself!  ;D

Dynamite also released The Green Hornet: Golden Age-Remastered #2, and a new issue of one of the other Green Hornet books.

Dark Horse released the eagerly awaited Doctor Solar: Man of the Atom #2 and I expect big things!

Finally, The Mighty Crusaders #3 (of 6) continues from DC.

Have a great weekend everyone!  ;D ;D ;D

Doctor Solar 2 was not great and the art was poor. Hope it picks up.
I have cancelled Widow Warriors after the second issue. Art remains much too dark and I expected war/adventure and this has too much mystical crap.

For the second time this year, the second within about 5 months, my local retailer did not receive their shipment from Diamond. In fact, Diamond shipped his books to another store -- with no invoice included -- meaning that the other store hit the jackpot this week.

So, what came out this week? I won't know until next week most likely.
