And an oddity from Ziff-Davis for you:

Famous Stars 6 uploaded to the FTP

This one falls more into the "interesting as an artifact of its time" category than "still entertaining on its own terms" category.  But I find it absolutely fascinating on those terms.  I would be very interested if anybody can ID the artists on this one; Frank Giacoia signs one story but I keep thinking I should be able to recognize some of the others.

Animal Comics 16 uploaded to the FTP

I call your attention to the first baseman on the cover; this is Pogo's first (if rather small) cover appearance.  The issue itself is half Kelly, besides Pogo he did Hector and a particularly hilarious Cilly Goose.  (When two characters are discussing a race, one claims he "used to belong to a Western Sprinting and Lithographing Company."  I have no idea how many people got the joke back then but I laughed myself sick; and the story just rolls on from there.)

Lovelorn 10 uploaded to the FTP.

This one has a great melodramatic cover; sadly there is no story in the book to go with the image.

Boy is that baseball field on the cover of Animal strange.  First it looks like home plate is down a high hill from the rest of the field.  And how is that branch of the tree hanging over the filed like that.  The perspective really looks strange.

But great Kelly art inside.  Thanks Eric.

I read it as a makeshift field somewhere in the swamp, which doesn't account for everything odd with the picture but explains some of it.

This week will be a little slow; I'm busy with other vital timewasters such as the new Looney Tunes DVD's.  ;D

Still, I don't want a week to go by without at least a scan or two:

Young Love v1 n04 uploaded to the FTP.  Thrill to what Overstreet describes as "Minor S&K art"!

I'm getting close to the bottom of my original 'to scan' pile, but I should be able to keep some books coming in to keep myself busy.  (Almost half the books I've scanned so far I picked up this year.)

Four Favorites 30 uploaded to the FTP

Nothing too exciting here; but every book we get scanned is another book we have.

And now for something a bit more interesting:

Feature Funnies 16 (paper+fiche) uploaded to the FTP.  (Yoc, can you rename this one correctly when you transfer it?)

Unfortunately, this one still has 11 pages (plus two panels) of Fiche scans.  But Yoc found me a nice scan of the cover (thanks!), and I was able to fix two damaged panels with fiche.  So overall it's a pretty good looking book, I think.  Highlights here include Espionage by Will Eisner and a Clock story; both are now in paper.  My huge thanks to whoever uploaded the original fiche!

Happy Comics 18 uploaded to the FTP

Not a lot to say on this one, other than noting it's my 75th PD book scanned.  (It's only the 73rd uploaded, a couple are having expert work done on them prior to posting.)  Enjoy!

Frogman Comics 10 uploaded to the FTP

This one will never get rediscovered as a lost classic, but Hillman had higher creative standards than some publishers and the concept is at least a bit off the beaten path.  Enjoy!

Battle Cry 15 uploaded to the FTP.

Somewhere fairly high on the "things to do" list is for Yoc to show me how to move stuff from the FTP over to the site itself...

I'll get those onto the site tomorrow Eric.  Very late here.

BTW, it sounds like the 'UPLOAD' link on the main site should now working for VIP members and moderators.  So it is possible to individually upload books on your own without the need of the FTP, etc.  The procedure is covered in the FAQ.

And here's another one for the Police Comics Project:

Police Comics 114 is now available for download on the site.

I was able to a) get the upload link to work, and b) use my shiny new moderator status to promote it, so it's ready for people to go grab it.

Crime Does Not Pay 133 now available for download.

I went ahead and scanned this one at 200 dpi instead of 150.  The Lev Gleason books, for lack of a better term, are some of the densest books out there.

You got that right!
Working on a fiche scan for Lev Gleason nearly cost me my eyesight!

Thanks for the scans Eric!

Sparkling Stars 29 is now available for download.  Since the first one I uploaded went over better than expected, I grabbed this one when I saw it cheap.  If any of our art identification experts out there grab this one, I would like to know what you think of the last story. (Operation: Law)  For some reason, it reminds me of Toth.  Not enough to convince myself that he really did it- I think it unlikely- but I wonder if anybody else sees the resemblance.

Also, if you haven't already seen it, Yoc did a nice job editing my scans of Wings Comics 3.  That's been up a few days but never got mentioned in my upload thread.

D'oh!  My bad Eric.
Loftypilot uploaded it for me and he's awfully bashful.
I should have given out a shout.

Thanks for the latest books,

Time for some Target practice!

Issue v6 n08 uploaded, cover to cover scans.

An odd issue; it came out after WW2 ended but was clearly prepared before then.  I wonder if the cover itself was a last-minute change; the scale is all sorts of wrong and the "comics" part of the logo is almost invisible.  (It shows up better in the scan than on the book itself for some reason.)
