Woohoo!   ;D ;D ;D  Thanks for the fine Jingle Jangle scan.  It's always super cool to find a George Carlsen story, he was far out.

Cheers,

Thank you for giving us the site to upload stuff to, Aussie!

I seem to be taking this fairly seriously, I've actually started ordering some books on-line at least in part because they're books we can use on the site.  They're still books I want anyway; they just get moved much higher on the list.

Sounds great Eric!
But as wonderful as the site is... it's all because of the scanners out there like yourself who really breathe life into the site.

So as I always say - 'three cheers to all the scanners out there!'

A quick question on protocol:  If I have a more complete copy of a book we already have posted, how should I go about providing a complete scan:  Rescan the whole book, Scan only the new pages and post a composite version, or scan only the new pages and post only them as a new file?

And, as I said, I'm getting some books we need at least in part because we need them.  Now that I have them in hand and know they're complete, I'll tell you what I got:  Animal comics 18, 19 (This is the one where we have an incomplete scan), 21, 25, 27, 30.  Which is a title that seems to have a slightly smaller fan base here, but those of us who do like it really like it.  Look for those to start showing up Monday.

Hi Eric,
What I do in this situation is merge my new scans with the old unless you know you can improve on the old in which case I suggest a complete rescan if time permits.
When I merge I make sure to include a txt file in the collection giving the original scanner credit when I know who it is.
I then collect them all and repost the now complete new book with 'c2c' in the file name.
Once I get your new c2c version I'll remove the incomplete one from the site.

Oh my, more ANIMAL COMICS!   Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!   :D
We may have a smaller set of fans here but there are MANY out there, trust me.
Walt Kelly was a god among the genre!

I'll go over the earlier scan; I think I'll want to replace a few pages where the original copy (not the scan itself) is inferior as well as add in the missing centerfold.  I doubt I can improve on the scan quality with my limited skills, but I don't have some of the damage the original does.  How do I add a text file to the .cbz that will show up, since I do want to share credit.

And I know Walt has his fans, I'm one of them.  But only about 40 people have downloaded the 2 issues I already posted, which is considerably less that some of the other books I've put up so far.  I think it's a case of a smaller group appreciating it; but the people who are fans put getting more of the material high on their list when the chance pops up.  (Not sure if I'm saying that well.)

Oh, totally odd question:  Issue 18 only has 36 pages including cover, while the other issues I have have 52.  If it was anybody but Dell, I would suspect a Canadian reprint or something since there's no sign of actual content missing.  But Dell had a very odd habit of jumping page counts up and down at semi-random, and there's no sign of it being a foreign edition.  I don't suppose anybody knows for sure what the page count should be; since the GCD has almost no information on the series?  Right now, I think it was a case of they were juggling their features and just didn't have the material to pad out the issue so they didn't.

Hi Eric,
Just create a .txt file as you normally would and add it into the folder with your Animal scans.  I always give it a name so that it falls at the top and opens first when viewing a cbz file.

Sure there may be less Kelly fans currently here but we're an elite group!   ;)

Thanks for scanning these!

Ok, here's my first from the Animal Comics batch:

Animal_Comics_18.cbz uploaded to the FTP

This is an odd one, it's 36 rather than 52 pages.  And the contents are Uncle Wiggily, Pogo, what looks like a recycled Golden Little Book or something similar, and a short Cubby and Bubby (not Tubby) story.  I think the book was going through a shake-up around this time.  Then again, from what I've seen the book was in close to a constant state of shake-up other than Uncle Wiggily and Pogo.  Still, an absolutely wonderful Pogo story in this one.  And I just love the "picture frame" covers Walt Kelly did for Animal Comics from 17 to 24.

Also uploaded:

Animal_Comics_19_C2C_Ontology.cbz

Ontology deserves the lion's share of the credit on that one; all I did was add 4 and replace 3 pages.  But it's nice to have a complete copy up there.  I'm not sure if Ontology is on these forums, if you are and there's anything I can do to help make that book conform to whatever standards you want let me know.  Everybody else, just enjoy.

Ontology has just started uploading here and is a nice guy.  Whether or not he reads the forum I don't know, but I'll tell him.

Since they weren't moved over yet, I added a 0 to the file names on the last two Animal Comics to conform with what we already have posted.

More importantly, Animal_Comics_021.cbz uploaded to the FTP.

This one is back to 52 pages, and including the covers we've got 18 pages of Kelly material.  The point of interest here is the second Kelly story, Prehysteria.  Which is an idea Kelly played with in Pogo 20 years later, but I never expected to see it pop up way back in the Animal Comics days.  Anyway, enjoy.

Side note:  Not counting the Dell Scribbly collection or the updates to Animal Comics 19, this is the 25th scan I've uploaded.  Which may not be a lot compared to some of our contributors, but it feels like a milestone to me.
