Hello from catman1256
« on: July 04, 2008, 09:52:58 AM »

Hello people.
I'm catman1256. I am 42 years old, and I have been reading and collecting comics for half my life. I thought I would say hello here, and introduce myself properly.

This is one hell of a cool site. I hope that the database problems get fully resolved soon though. Once that is cleared up, this site will truly rock. As far as I am concerned, our parents and/or grandparents all paid their 10 cents each time they bought a goldenage book off the newstands. And once they paid for them, they owned them. I know I've paid enough for comics throughout my childhood and collecting years. I fully support what this site is doing for comic fans everywhere.

I realize that only public domain books will find a home here to be downloaded,, and I do not question that, but seeing as how superheroes, and comicbook characters are loved the world over, in my heart, I feel that all of the comics in our cultural history **should** be public domain just as our culture is after all "public domain" itself so to speak. If it was all online, it would all be preserved digitally for future generations.

With the two big comic book companies "M" and "D" I'll just call them (  8) ) making a killing on superhero movies, they could stand to lose a little by allowing their histories to be documented by fandom, and their stories to be available publically.

I mean really, how can it hurt them? I figure they owe their fans something in return.

Anyway, I said my piece. Now I'll leave that subject in peace. (Insert peace sign smiley here)

I'll just close by stating "Make mine" goldenagecomics.co.uk"

-"Excelsior" >Ahem..<  ;D

"Make mine" goldenagecomics.co.uk"
Ha, that was good!

Mind if I use it?

Maybe we could get a slogan like Merry... Marching Soc...nah, that won't do it.
hmmmm, ...Great Golden Gleaning Society? ;D
Divine Currents?

Hi Rez, Lol. I don't mind a bit. (even if it was kinda cornball  ::) ) Ahh..what the hell. ("Have at Thee Varlets"). How often do us fans really get to speak?

I'll raise a pint of beer to the G.G.G.S. myself. We know who we are,   8) ...though I don't know if the moderators would want to change the name of the forums to Divine Currents...  :o Ahh, but one can never be too certain, there's always hope. ;D

Lol Rez, that's cool. If the board ever fixes the upload your own Avatar function, I'm going to pin a small copy onto Catman's uniform in my Avatar. Thanks!  ;D

Copied from an old 60s fandom artifact I found at a fleamarket a while back. Tho' in the 60s I  never could bring myself to spend a whole dollar to join (I mean that was 8 whole comics tax ibcluded fer cryin' out loud ;D)

I did manage to receive a No-Prize from Marvel in the mail. An envelope addressed to me and when opening, an empty stationary envelope was found inside

stamped with a picture of The Thing, hands over head if I recall correctly, with a speech balloon saying something to the effect of ' Inside is your fabulous No-Prize'.

Alas, the one time as a teen when I sold of the bulk of my collection it went with it.

What it needs is someone more experienced than myself to spend the time to go over and finetune it a bit. Any takers out there?
I recall the mention of a blurring tool.

heh heh  or maybe...
