What type of scanner are you using?
« on: August 27, 2008, 06:12:08 AM »

I've this old what...$100 scanner from around 2000 or '01 Canon that I've been using. Can make it function alright, I guess,

but do wonder how much better a scan might be able to be using a newer model scanner instead

or would it just be faster, and the quality of scans regarding the posting here on site might not be that much of a noticable improvement?

What type of scanner are you all using?

Thanks

Hey, $280 is within grasp!
Can you say anything about the good and bad points you've discovered since having one?
Thanks.

This is good news.

I've got a Terrible 'HP Scans Jet 4370' that takes about 1.5min per page to scan at 200dpi.
Don't get one of these!

I had timed this canon once and don't recall the exacts except it was similar to that of which you speak.

Now when a manu starts talking under 10 seconds a scan, well, that gives a cause to listen.

The only bad thing I have to say about the Plustek, is, when talking with a couple of other people who bought one, the space NOT read by the lamp on the outside edge seems tto vary by up to an eighth of an inch...  other than that, scans in around 8-30 seconds, depending on dpi desired, MUCH less wear and tear on the books, and even oversized books CAN be scanned fairly easily, since the outside lip has no rise to it, allowing for a flat scan of a book that hangs over the edge...

In short, I can't recommend it enough... (Oh, and the colours it produces with 0 auto-adjusts - all of mine are set to OFF - is truly accurate, as long as you have a true white strip of paper or comic backing board on the glass with the book being scanned, due to the gamma reduction built in)...
