Charlton Team-Up story
« on: March 06, 2014, 02:15:02 PM »

Someone posted a composite Charlton Team-up cover at the Charlton Arrow facebook page. I followed suit with my own version. I had the idea of one of Charlton's monsters and the Chartlon car comics characters. The Gorgo and the Hot Rods cover had some match-up. So I put them together. The hand around the wheel was especially cool. Like before, after making the cover I just had to write the story. So here they are with feedback appreciated.

The tyrannical leader of North Korea was unhappy with his nuclear program. Many

heads had rolled, literally. They had failed him. Kim Jung Un wanted the world

to believe his nuclear program was farther along than it was. Things were not

where he wanted them to be. The world, and especially the USA, must fear him.

Instead he felt that they dared to laugh at him. Kim Jung Un must have revenge.

On a small island not far from North Korea lived a mythical monster. It had

been seen by many, but not everyone believed it to be real. Kim Jung Un had

seen them while being ferried in one of his submarines. Yes them, a mother and

her child. The child was big, the mother even bigger. They were nearly

indestructible. He had sent back the subs and they found out the hard way. Two

of the subs never returned, while the creatures were merely annoyed.

The young dictator came up with an idea to terrorize America. These creatures

were a part of his plan. He had developed a sedative for the child monster,

known as Gorgo, and a titanium carbon fiber netting that might hold him. They

had nothing that could contain the mother but where the child went the mother

would follow. This creature from the past would help brighten his future.

The specially developed netting was packed into two torpedoes on two subs. The

subs waited until Gorgo swam in the ocean some distance from his mother. Too

close would be disastrous for the subs. If they could not go fast enough to

stay ahead of the mother not only would their plan be dead but so would they.

The two subs got within the same distance of Gorgo on either side and fired the

torpedoes. Gorgo became encased in the netting that was attached to the twin

subs, which took off quickly dragging the creature behind them. Gorgo let out a

sound that immediately notified mother of his plight. Enraged she followed

quickly. The subs hoped that they could stay ahead of her until reaching their

destination. The coast of California was a long ways off.

Twice on the trips some sacrifices had to be made. Some other submarines, to

slow her down, attacked the mother. Not all of those subs survived the mother's

wrath. Near their destination, a mini-sub, hiding off the shores of California,

traveled to Gorgo and fired several torpedoes that were filled with sedatives

into the young monster's mouth. The sedative took affect by the time they came

to shore avoiding the Coast Guard. A flatbed truck and tarp were ready to

receive the sleeping cargo. Momma was not far behind.

Gorgo's mother followed the submarines across the Pacific Ocean. She was

exhausted but unhindered in her mission. She was only able to eat those

creatures unfortunately enough to get in her way. She did not take time from

her mission to deviate from the path to her child. Now the water was becoming

shallower. She was approaching the shore. Where was her baby?

Gorga did not know where her son had gone. She had followed his trail for

thousands of miles but now did not have a clue. She was a mother enraged and

began her rampage. Santa Monica was the first place to pay the price until she

smelled blood. The monsternappers had drawn blood. They wanted to lure the

mother to Los Angeles. Kim Jung Un would rather have attacked New York or

Washington, DC but Los Angeles would have to do. This cultural center of

America would feel his vengeance in the form of a monster. After all America

was the world's monster stifling communism and persecuting his people.

The situation was bad. Nothing seemed to stop or even slow down the monster.

She had trampled through Los Angeles leaving devastation. The truck carrying

Gorgo moved on eastward. Perhaps they could reach Washington, DC and New York

by land. How great it would be to leave such a path of destruction across the

USA.

The Auto Club Speedway in Fontana California was unprepared for what happened.

The news of the monster's rampage was everywhere. No one knew the path the

monster would take. So quickly were her travels that the races were still going

on. Gorga entered the speedway and chaos ensued. It was just another step in

her journey but it got the attention of some special individuals.

Rick Roberts and Clint Curtis saw the monster first hand. They were helpless to

stop the damage done to the speedway or to prevent the death of their friend

Speed Davis. Speed's car was no more than a toy in the creature's hands. It was

turned over and the speedway legend did not have time to suffer as his life was

ended quickly. Clint and the Road Knights had seen a similar hand just hours

before. While traveling the highways they passed a large truck. From beneath a

tarp they saw what they thought was some prop from a Hollywood movie. They saw

a large green hand. The two events had to be related.

Rick and Clint devised a plan. The truck was traveling the Interstate heading

East. If they could run it down they might be able to find out the connection

and maybe how to stop the giant beast. With their Hot Rods geared for speed

they drove as fast as their horses would haul them. When they came upon the

truck they confirmed the hand was the same kind as that they saw at the

speedway.

The Interstate was almost empty going east. When it became evident that the

monster was heading east everyone began to flee north and south. The hot rod

drivers surrounded the truck and forced it to slow down and stop. The Korean

driver and passenger jumped out guns drawn. Clint had prepared his Road Knights

for trouble. They immediately gunned their vehicles and erratically drove

around to confuse the two villains. It was Clint Curtis who ran into the driver

while Ben got the passenger.

Rick Roberts jumped into the cab of the semi-truck. It was obvious to them that

the big monster was following the path of the smaller. Since the monster

arrived from the ocean they hoped to get her back to the ocean. The plan was

dangerous. They would have to come close to the giant rushing by rapidly so as not

get caught. Rick turned the truck around as quickly as he could. He picked up

Clint, and the other Road Knights followed, as they attempted the most dangerous

part of their mission.

The Speedway had just been a minor delay in the path of Gorga. She continued on

the path to her son. The smell had seemed to change it was growing stronger.

The Road Knights had separated from the truck. They had taken some of the

creature's blood. They did not want to hurt it but could not think of any other

way to get the mother off the trail of her baby. They got as close to her as

possible to allow the truck with Gorgo to get by. When the truck had passed her

the road knights followed the truck while Gorga followed them all, and

especially Gorgo.

The vehicles went as fast as they could back toward the ocean. A few calls had

made sure the path was cleared. Rick did not stop when he reached the waters.

He drove the truck right into the ocean at the deepest point he knew he could

enter. Waiting for him offshore was another friend. They quickly unstrapped

Gorgo and grabbed the ends of the netting surrounding him. Clint and Rick both

hopped on waiting jet skies and headed for a waiting sub with the ends of the

netting. When they got to the sub they greeted Davy Jones the UNDERSEA AGENT.

His frogmen quickly secured the ends and prepared for departure. Gorga had

reached the shoreline. Davy would drop off Gorgo in the middle of the Pacific

and get out as quickly as possible. It was obvious the mother was becoming

exhausted. She might not survive a trip back to North Korea. Davy did not want

to damage either of the pair. It was not their fault but the fault of the crazy

little North Korean.

Narfstar, I enjoyed your many contributions to this site until I finally joined. I thought you might be interested in my history of bad timing concerning CHARLTON.

Just before its demise, I wrote two scripts and sent them to Charlton. I received a very polite response that explained their dire financial situation.

Awhile back, feeling nostalgic, I rode by the Charlton building, or as I should say-the CharltonLESS building.
There was a nice little diner at the corner of the lot, so my wife and I had lunch there. There was one waitress, and she had little or no idea that there was once a CHARLTON at the site.
Shortly thereafter, we made a return trip. We were told that the diner was moving from the site, and suddenly that was gone as well.

I guess Charlton and I were never fated to meet!
