Interesting episode of "The dragon mountain" series showing a leper colony at China, at the time of the communist revolution. Not quite sure if it's historically accurate, but it's nevertheless unusual and curious.

The story's reference to leper colonies in the US led me to Wikipedia, where I learned about a "leprosarium" in Louisiana that remained open until the late 1990s. Though leprosy is now treatable, many colonies still exist in India and Asia. Based on the article's description the comic's version of the Chinese leper colony seems reasonable, though the artist played down the awful disfigurement caused by leprosy.
