Welcome to our Western Hero category, where truth has been sacrificed
for a good story. Fittingly, we start with Wild Bill Hickok, who features in many
pulp and comic book stories. When he was alive Hickok much preferred
self-promotion to the real truth.
But he was no match for the biggest Wild-West showman of all, Buffalo Bill.
His worldwide fame means that we have a couple of Spanish titles.
Western outlaws also make an appearance.
Billy the Kid, features in issues from Charlton and Toby. His life and death are
still hotly debated. From some accounts
he was not a bad man, that he was fun loving and loyal, but fell in with a bad crowd.
Jesse James who enjoyed a 24 issue run with Avon, was a celebrity whilst alive and
his murder made national headlines. Since which time he has become a mainstay of western
folklore.
As all the major pioneers make an appearance in this section
we will leave the last words to one of them Daniel Boone:
"Many heroic actions and chivalrous adventures are related of me which exist only in the
regions of fancy. With me the world has taken great liberties, and yet I have been but a common man."
We have 43 titles and 816 issues in our 'Western Heroes Category' for you to enjoy.
