On page 20, the line "He'll look DEVINE, Daddy!" brought a chuckle from me, referring as it does to "Jingles."

Hey, I don't need to spell it out for you, do I? After all, they did!

I'm enjoying this super chunk of Maneely art! Too bad he didn't have the fine inking he would get with the Timely (or Atlas, or whatever proto-Marvel publisher/s) "Black Knight" and such. I'd love to see this with John Severin applying the finishes, for instance.

Glad you enjoyed the collection, I'm very proud of the work Yoc and I did as editors on it.

As far as I know, almost all the fine inking he got at Atlas... was by Maneely.  Everything I've read suggests he did only the barest rough layouts in pencil before going to ink.  What you're seeing here is Maneely working at a rate of speed consummate with Charlton's low page rate, and the roughness is because he spent so little time on it.
