This is curious. Johnny Cash had recorded two albums by 1958, when this came out. The character looks pretty much like Cash looked then. Hard to believe that the artist wasn't deliberately referencing him but without copyright.

Actually it was very common for comic artists to use celebrities as models for characters, often without the celebrity's knowing. In the 1980s Entertainment Tonight mentioned to Fred MacMurray's people the fact that Captain Marvel's appearance was based on him and he had no idea.

These days one could get in trouble with it because California has a law granting actors a right over their appearance, but I think that was created in the 1980s.
