Well, my first batch is pretty much set in stone.  Assuming all goes well and I'm putting a second list together in a couple months, I'll definitely take the time to poll around the forums and see what people want to see rather than just focusing on my own pet choices.

Which is not to say I won't have a share of my own pet choices in each batch, mind you.   :P  But the project is for the community as a whole and I want to scan what people- not just myself- want to see.

I am greatly appreciative of you slaves who make the GCD possible, Narf,
Reminds me of one of my all time sf favorites, The Marching Morons by C.M. Kornbluth, wherein futuristic intelligentsia labor furiously in the background so the unwashed masses can think they're having a life. Believe me, I meant no disrespect to the site, just stressing that data entry can be improved and it would benefit us all if it were. I'll shut up now.

S'funny you should pick all those particular comics for your "wants". I just reviewed most of them with Hames and they just returned from Arkansas on Monday. They belong to an subset of comics we call "Carlson's Comics" because my attention was drawn to them by Mark Carlson about 25 years ago. Many of them seem to be the "ancestors" of Orbit and Charlton comics, drawn and/or packaged by either the Jacquet Shop or the Bernard Baily Shop. They were some of the smallest survivors of the WWII paper shortages and their "publishing companies" vary tremendously, some even originating in Mexico or Central America. In 1984 I did one of my very earliest computer comic analysis and still have the printouts sorted by editorial address, character, publishing company, artists, etc.

Now THOSE cards are really current, and if YOU want to try your hand at scanning them, perhaps we can consider it a trial of how well I can manage FOUR sets of books in the works.

But now it's back to getting some stuff ready for Geo.

I have been trying to scan a book a day and would love to work on those books if no else is getting them. I normally do my books unedited but we have some in the group that would be able to edit my scans. You cans see why I consider myself the esoteric, eclectic collector. I love those oddball books the most. BTW do you want my Calling All Kids 26 to add to your collection since you were missing it. No charge it is already scanned and now ready to be passed to someone who would appreciate it.

Here's the listing of the books I lumped together in my early computer analysis project, Narf.
There might be others involved, too, but pick what you'd like from this list and add whatever you choose in addition. I'm quite literally going through the tail end of them right now adding my comments to Hames' notes and Hames' notes to my index cards. I've got another dozen of so to do to finish up and then I can send things off.

I finished getting Geo's package ready, so I could do yours at the same time if we can work it all out.

It would be beneficial if you and I could chat on the phone beforehand, just to get a sense of each other and also to get little things like, oh, maybe an ADDRESS... I'll send you a PM with a phone number.

Oh, something I just noticed went up:  Ajax Phantom Lady 3, Scans by me, edits by Yoc.  We had a very incomplete copy, this one has everything but the IFC.  Huge thanks to Yoc for the edits on this one!

Thanks for everything guys ESPECIALY that new Phantom Lady book.

I've been taking some time away from 'stateside' affairs to wrap up a little project of my own, the scanning of a 242 issue run of a 1960's British weekly, did'nt scan each and every single issue but like the now almost completed Police Comics project I like to think that I 'did my bit' sadly being of recent vintage I can't share the fruits of this project here but no doubt most of you will run accross  it 'elsewhere' over coming months.

As for me with any luck i'll be back on the case with my 'U.S. Projects' come the new year.

Hi Eric,
I wanted to sincerely thank-you for the wonderful scans of Animal Comics #1!
I'm going to talk about Kelly in a new topic but the rest of the book was a LOT of fun as well.
I've only glanced at most of it but read Pogo and the Katonka Canadian Goose story that followed.  It had a ring of truth to it and it as well as ALL of the book was done with a superior level of artistry.  It's interesting that Kelly got the least number of pages for his feature but Albert was given the cover even if it wasn't drawn by Kelly.  (Or was it?  Doesn't feel like Kelly to me, anyone else have an opinion?  Look at Alberts feet - they're all wrong...)  So it would seem Dell knew the Kelly feature was strong enough to give the cover right from the start.  Now they also included the ape character that was the star of Muzzy and Ginger so perhaps Dell had plans for him in #2?  He's gone by Animal 3.  The fact Albert and the gang are the only holdover feature from Animal #1 to Animal #3 is telling.  Funny even Pogo isn't in #4, 6 or 7 according to Overstreet.

Thanks again Eric!

I really wanted to try the new upload link off the main download site.
Even got as far as filling out various data until it came time to select the publisher and couldn't locate St.John.

So, it was back to the FTP.

Just found a neat book at an antique shop today; will scan it once I'm done with my current JVJ books.

Mr. and Mrs., from 1922.  The first known whitman comic book!

And, since they're quick and easy to scan and edit while I should be working on editing JVJ books instead:

Adventures of Peter Wheat 19 and 20 uploaded.  A total of 32 pages of rare Walt Kelly goodness, with another 2 issues on the way soon.  (The 19 is the worst condition of the four I have; sorry about the damage to the first and last pages.)

After the last few days of trying to track down anything I could about the series since I had just found out about it, I think the two books I just posted roughly triple the amount of scanned material from the series online.

Just realized a weird graphic glitch popped up on page 3 of PW 20 somewhere at the very last minute; I'll upload a corrected copy later tonight when I can get to my other computer.

Eric,

I was reading and enjoying your Peter Wheats and I was looking at the "glitch" and wondering just what it was.  I first thought an erasure on teh original page, but it had shiny an appearance.

Now back to editing JVJ's books; I hope you'll all forgive my brief diversion.
