I need to get in to storage and check some stuff; other than about a dozen Supergirl issues I've got a complete run of Adventure from 300 to 503...That reminded me of an old comic story. Couple decades past I was working at a shop and guy came in wanting to sell his comic collection. Can't recall the specifics but for some reason the shop didn't want the collection so I was able to pursue it.
Having called the guy and arranging to pickup the books I arrived in my van totally psyched to receive the collection with $800 burning a hole in my front pocket. He had the Adventure Supergirl run in there but I wasn't interested in that at the time as it was just considered froth on the collection of old marvels and dcs that were stashed in the long comic boxes under the bed in his extraroom.
Now in the short time it took me to get off the phone and rod my van 10-15 miles to the suburbia location, he had gotten into them and was reminiscing over them having a copy of NotBrand Echh in his hands and laughing. Then his countenance dropped and he said something to the effect of 'O man, I can't sell these books'.
At this time I heard a nerdy little voice whimper up from out of me...'You don't want to sell the books?' I was crushed and devestated all at the same time. Seeing his books again gave him the charge where he couldn't part with them after all.
Heart broken in the realization I would not be able to lay the comics down and roll on 'em while tossing them up in the air with glee while shouting 'pretty colors pretty colors' I succumbed to my fate that I'd just been thwarted out of a comic buy and went home dejected.
Wouldn't have been bad if the guy had kept his books for reading but I followed up a month later and the previous week he had sold them to someone else.
So, I almost had a SG Adv collection.
