A Belated Introduction
« on: June 23, 2009, 06:00:36 PM »

Hi everybody! I 've been downloading comics from this wonderful site off and on for almost a year, but seldom ventured near the messageboard for some reason.

At 55, I am a little young  :D to have experienced Golden Age comics firsthand. Silver Age is more my period. However, even at a young age, I was always intrigued to learn anything about comics during my Mom's era. That's right. My Dad didn't read comics as a kid, but my Mom did. Imagine my surprise when I bought Silver Age Marvel Comics with Captain America or Sub-Mariner, and Mom said she used to read them.

My own tastes in Golden Age comics are primarily super-heroes, horror, and science fiction comics. Favorite heroes include: Superman, Batman, Plastic Man, The Spirit, Captain America and Sub-Mariner. Favorite artists of that era are Simon & Kirby, Jack Cole, Bill Everett and Jerry Robinson. EC Comics produced my favorite horror & SF comics. I was introduced to them through the excellent Ballantine paperbacks in the 60's. Favorite horror artists are Graham Ingels, Johnny Craig and Jack Davis. For SF, there's nobody better than Al Williamson and Wallace Wood.

Unfortunately, I don't really have anything to contribute as far as having anything to scan and upload. My meager colection of Golden Age comics were scammed out of me by a former friend nearly 30 years ago.

I do look forward to seeing the online library grow and hope to find time to toss a suggestion or two into the forum.
