Great story! Say, meine Englische Freunden, is there some reason the prof's name spelt backwards is "bowls over?"

Well crash, as your Scottische Freunde, I can perhaps enlighten you ;)  Bolsover is, or was as it's not so common now, an English name.
It's also the name of a small town in Derbyshire, nr. Chesterfield, and has the highest percentage of satanists in any town in England and Wales.  (No stats for Scottish towns)
Interesting as Dennis Skinner is the M.P. for Bolsover and his nickname is "The Beast of Bolsover"
Bowls over could well be a cricket reference as bowlers bowl a 6 ball over.
