The first time I ever heard of a Tom Mix comic, was a reference by none other than - Fredric Wertham. In the story, the villain had tried Tom to a frame and proceeded to amputate his hands ! It then turned out that the villain had mutilated a DUMMY ! The real live Tom Mix then dealt with the villain. The mental image stuck in my mind, ever since, invoked by every ref to Tom since...
