I believe it was Johnny Thunder who squashed the Captain Thunder TM.

Seemingly too minor a character (who never made cover appearances, except later as part of the JSA ensemble), but considering that they were looking at All-American's FLASH COMICS, it makes sense in that context... and also the magic thunderbolt thing. Mentally, I would never make a connection between those two, because Johnny Thunder's obviously modeled on Aladdin, with a magic word instead of a magic lamp.

We did get a much later Captain Thunder (and a Blue Bolt thrown in for good measure) when Roy and Danni Thomas had their versions published by Hero in '87.
I was talking to a couple of fans at a con recently and the subject came up of how some heroes change from their normal i/d to their super powered state and we could think of a number of heroes who have to say/shout a word of power - either magic or scientific.  I don't completely subscribe to the standard belief that Marvelman is a replacement clone of  (Shazam) Captain Marvel. He does use a word of power, in his case Kimota.  Young and Kid, of course, use "Marvelman" as their word of power.
MM was a replacement, of necessity for Miller, but the costume is completely different from Cap's.  No cape, blue, roundel chest emblem. He just looks completely different.
Excuse me, please for going a tad off topic. My excuse is I've always been a fan ;D

I'm with you. I don't subscribe to the standard belief that the current Shazam is a replacement for the original Captain Marvel, or the standard belief that Miracleman is a replacement for Marvelman, either. Don't even get me started on that female "Captain Marvel" published by Marvel Comics.
