It's a neat one, isn't it?

Well worth the dollar I paid back in the early 90's, at least!  (At least, I think it was a dollar.  I'm sure it was no more than that, and it could have been as little as 3 for a dollar.)

Now ready for download:  Jo-Jo, Congo King #20.

Missing the IFC and IBC, which in the case of Fox of course means one missing story page.  But still a nice book.

I've got a fair number of Fox books on the way, taken from Fox Giants.  Once I have the entire book scanned I'll post the Giant as a whole, as well.

I'm just in a scanning frenzy tonight.

Famous Crimes 3 (No IFC, IBC) now ready for your enjoyment.

How to describe this book?  Let me see...

Overstreet apparently decided mentioning the SOTI reference, the injury-to-eye motif, and the TWO electrocution stories was enough to sell the book and didn't bother mentioning the crossdressing sequence.

:P

And now we've perpetrated and enshrined the notion that those aspects of the book reflect the things we comic fans REALLY care about. WTF?

No, Eric, I got the sarcasm, but simply repeating that dreadful trash is playing into the hands of the maniacs who have taken over our hobby.

It's the people who WON'T get your sarcasm that you have to worry about when you say such things. Did the download meter speed up after your post?

Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like I thought YOU believed in that crud. I just wish it would all go away...

Ah, it was the "WTF" at the end that threw off my sarcasm detector.

Actually, in the case of the SOTI reference I actually find some value in the value others find in it.  I don't care for the "it's a SOTI book, jump the price" mindset, but I do like the http://www.lostsoti.org/ website and the effort that's been put into documenting it, for example.

Sorry for the WTF, Eric.
It's not how I normally express myself, but SOTI is not only the worst thing to happen to the comic business, but its popularity and the popularity of the books mentioned therein highlight the worst aspects of the comic collectors' mentality. If the result of ID'ing a "lost SOTI story" wouldn't jack the price of the ID'd book, I applaud the "scholarship" involved. However, I KNOW the prices of the books ID'd will jump and I doubt very much the altruism of those searching for the data.

It sickens me to think that terms like "Injury to the Eye Motif" and "Spanking Panel" literally litter the Price Guide. Do you want your friends to think you approve of that crap? You collect comics, you buy Overstreet, and Overstreet documents these things - ergo, you must think it's okay to focus on them.

Ignoring it or pretending that it's all "historical research" is self-deluding. You and I are being tainted by the sickos who are promoting them. If you point them out, even sarcastically, you're promoting their agendas. Sorry, but that's how I see it.

Fair enough, Jim.  I'm not sure I agree but you do have some good points, I need to think on the subject for a bit.

I think I've probably bought my last ever copy of Overstreet, with things like the GCD what value it had for me has long ago diminished.  The price guide part became worthless long ago but it did and does have some value as an index of what was published.  (I think I've bought all of 5 copies in the 25 or so years I've been seriously collecting; I normally only got one when my old copy started falling apart.  And I picked up a copy of either the 2nd or 3rd edition- I can't remember exactly- when I saw it cheap in an old bookstore.  That's a fascinating artifact on its own these days!)

And now that you've seen some of the individual books with the covers partially restored, here's the Giant itself:

Almanac of Crime NN (1948) no IBC now ready for download

In addition to the Jo-Jo 20, the Western Thrillers 2, and the Famous Crimes 3 this book has a 16 page section that is not from a specific single book and a VERY off-register scan of Phantom Lady #19.  A much better scan of the PL #19 is on the way soon so I am not posting that issue separately and I would appreciate it if nobody pulls it out.
