Sorry for the WTF, Eric.
It's not how I normally express myself, but SOTI is not only the worst thing to happen to the comic business, but its popularity and the popularity of the books mentioned therein highlight the worst aspects of the comic collectors' mentality. If the result of ID'ing a "lost SOTI story" wouldn't jack the price of the ID'd book, I applaud the "scholarship" involved. However, I KNOW the prices of the books ID'd will jump and I doubt very much the altruism of those searching for the data.
It sickens me to think that terms like "Injury to the Eye Motif" and "Spanking Panel" literally litter the Price Guide. Do you want your friends to think you approve of that crap? You collect comics, you buy Overstreet, and Overstreet documents these things - ergo, you must think it's okay to focus on them.
Ignoring it or pretending that it's all "historical research" is self-deluding. You and I are being tainted by the sickos who are promoting them. If you point them out, even sarcastically, you're promoting their agendas. Sorry, but that's how I see it.
