Welcome to our Western Romance section, where cowboys and cowgirls
show their tenderer side. Also, remember when you see titles such as
Cowboy Love, published by both Charlton and Fawcett, that
Brokeback Mountain would appear over half a century later!
The publisher of Golden West Love, Kirby Publishing is often a source of confusion
as the natural assumption is that this must be Jack Kirby.
In fact the Kirby in question is A. L. Kirby
known as 'Red' Kirby, whose small publishing house had specialized in
girlie mags and cartoons for the U.S. forces.
The small spate of western romances published around the beginning of the
1950's included Fiction House's Cowgirl Romances which lasted 12 issues
and Fawcett's Cowboy Love 11 issue run.
A pulp title represented here is Real Western Romances, published between
1949 and 1958. With stories such as
Dowry Paid In Lead 'There can be no love for feudists when a truce is broken'
and Call Her Gun-Girl 'Koln Dilgen tames Rocking River, but he can't tame Mary Mercer!',
you can guess that this might not English literature's highest point!
We have 15 titles and 72 issues in our 'Western Romance Category' for you to enjoy.
