At times the comic book realm appears to be overrun with masked heroes and heroines.
So rather than talk about characters, whom you may well be familiar with, we'll look at
some that you may not know about.
Rodolfo Guzman Huerta was a Mexican wrestler, but whilst that statement is true
he was a whole lot more. Known as El Santo (the Saint),
he is one of the greatest Mexican sporting heroes. He also appeared in films and comic books.
Always wearing a silver mask and fighting for the rights of the
common man, he became the stuff of folklore.
Amok, an Italian comic book series, was created by Cesare Solini and Antonio Canale.
The hero, an Indonesian giant, dons a mask dedicating his
life to crime-fighting after his girlfriend is kidnapped. It has been
translated into many languages, including the Spanish example here.
Other Spanish masked men are El Defensor de La Cruz (The Defender of the Cross)
set during the Roman Empire and El Capitan Coraje (Captain Courage).
We finish this journey on the other side of the globe with a couple of
Australian titles. The Grey Domino, aka Hugh Standish, a racing car driver
by day, crime-fighter by night, and the jungle adventurer
Char Chapman, the Phantom of the East.
We have 99 titles and 3,561 issues in our 'Masked / Mystery Men Category' for you to enjoy.
