Western folklore has been commercialized, in one
form or another, from the very first steps of the pioneers into the Wild West.
Although always popular, Western related media enjoyed a surge in the United States and a
great many other countries from the late 1930's through to the 1960's.
Western films were big box office. Pulp fiction and comic strips had a massive readership.
Centaur Publications is credited with creating the first stand-alone Western comics titles
launching both Star Ranger and Western Picture Stories with cover dates of February 1937.
The good news is we have both these historic issues in our collection.
The real growth of western comics came a few years later with the end of World War II.
All the major publishers launched their own titles, as you will soon discover by looking
at all the titles we hold.
We have 280 titles and 7,002 issues in our 'Western Category' for you to enjoy.
