When I last commented on a Black Hood comic, I complained that the hero seems to get clocked on the head in nearly every story. Well, here in #14, only Inspector Bentley of Scotland Yard gets blackjacked in the back-up story. On the other hand, in two out of the three Black Hood stories, the Hood manages to catch the villain by literally pulling the rug out from under him.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing, though. Both Kip and the Hood have to do some actual sleuthing in these two stories and Babs is invaluable in both. I also enjoyed the venues: a championship boxing match, an opera opening, and a seance at a spiritualist's residence.
As usual, I loved Kinstler's artwork on the cover, but I felt like the artwork inside by "Clem" was just as good. Lots of shadowing and lots of detail made this a very enjoyable reading experience for me.
