One feature I like a lot is "El Bombo" by Bernard "Dib" Dibble, which appeared in Sparkler, Tip Top, one issue of Fritzi Ritz, and in one issue of his own. Most of the strips in these comics were newspaper reprints (with some exceptions, like Sparkman) but I've been unable to find any info on "El Bombo."

addendum: Lambiek indicates Dibble was a staff artist at United Features and worked on a number of syndicated strips.  Maybe "El Bombo" was a very obscure newspaper comic or maybe United Features just allowed him to do this for their comic books.
