Hi everyone!

My recommendation is the Bob Phantom story in the issue Top-Notch Comics #15. I found it pretty nice, and it's the only Bob Phantom story drawn by the amazing Mort Meskin.

Not a bad choice FraBig,
I don't recall that we have looked at many MLJ  Books, and the whole book is very interesting.

I will contact you down the track a bit by a PM - Personal/Private Message - to talk about it.

The next post is two weeks away yet.

Cheers!

Thanks!

I'm personally a big fan of MLJ's superheroes, most of the characters were very original and interesting, such as the Hangman, the Shield and the Comet.

I agree, I like the MLJ heroes.  But then, I am a superhero nut.

This suggestion gets a big thumbs up from me as well. I haven't been active in the reading group for quite a while, but it's time for me to jump back in! Cheers, Bowers

Hi everyone!
I've recently finished reading the 1950s revival of Captain America, and I've enjoyed it very much. I thought it might be interesting to read more superhero comics from the 1950s (a period which is known to have been pretty difficult for the superhero genre), so I propose:

The Avenger #1:
https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=22872

&

Captain Flash #1:
https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=71402

Let me know if you consider these readings to be interesting for the Reading Group.

Frabig, I have the next slot, at the end of next week and I have something special in mind.
Then we have Robb's choice for two weeks and then I have something in mind for my next slot.
Those two books are good choices and the commentary would be interesting, but you may have to wait a while.
But thanks.

I am very busy on a deadlined project right now, and also have several family get-togethers coming up during the next 3 weeks.  I will be hard pressed for time even without having to deal with coming up with new books to review, and creating the opening post.  If any of you would want to be the "Guest Host" of The Reading Group this coming fortnight, starting next Monday, November 29, I would appreciate it very much.  Please PM me as soon as possible, if you'd like to volunteer.

Super Scrounge has offered to take over hosting, and choosing the book/(s) next Monday, so the offer is now off the table.  As the old saying used to go (I know not from whence it came): See you in the funny papers!  8)

A suggestion inspired by the latest Fizzfop video: Let's take a look at Charlton in 1964.
Blue Beetle reboot https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=39317

and Konga (hmmm, I wonder where they got the inspiration for this one from?)  https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=12539

According to Fizzfop, Charlton actually didn't care about the profitability of their comics, they simply ran them to keep the printing press rolling.

Konga 01

That would make it a Ditko double!

Hi all

I'm not sure if people are still putting up suggestions here, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I'd be interesting in comparing male and female characters in a similar genre and time period.  For example, Jonathan Kent from 'Spy Hunters' and 'Undercover Girl, Starr Flagg'. Both were spies in roughly the same era. Both have good art and interesting stories. Here are a couple of links:

Spy Hunters - https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=18859

Undercover Girl - https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=59989

Hi there

Just putting this suggestion here while I think of it. K1ngcat mentioned that he remembered reading a story in Police Comics that was a rip-off of Cornell Woolrich's short story 'Kiss of the Cobra'. I found the link for it. Could make an interesting selection.

Just a couple of suggestions that might make good comparisons.

Suggestion 1

There's an interesting fanzine on the site called 'Heroines Showcase':

https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=64907

It includes an interesting article on women who drew heroines, plus snippets about some comic book heroines like Miss Fury. I thought it might be interesting to have a look at what the fanzine says and then read one of the Miss Fury comics:

https://comicbookplus.com/?cid=3266

Suggestion 2

A couple of weeks ago, K1ngcat mentioned an issue of Police Comics he'd read that had a story based on a Cornell Woolrich story 'Kiss of the Cobra'. I found the link on the site:

https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=19823

I also found another comic that has a complete Cornell Woolrich story 'The Window', which was apparently turned into a movie.

https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=23425

Might make for an interesting comparison.

Cheers

That is quite an interesting comic - as is the series that comic is part of.
Cornell Woolrich is quite interesting himself.
The next fortnight is Robb's to assign and then I want to give Kingcat a slot again.
What do you think, guys?

I note that the reading group is now up to #293, in 14 weeks we will hit #300!
For #250 I got Mark Warner, who started it, to do a guest spot.
So I'm asking for suggetions. Does anybody have any interesting creative suggestions for #300?
Post them here, please.
cheers!
