Mike Shayne comic #3, the final edition, is a story called, "Heads... You Lose." The original title was, "Blood On The Black Market," written in 1943, dealing with counterfeit gasoline ration coupons during WWII. On page one there was just one sentence... Phyllis Shayne had died in childbirth.
...In 1956, the same book was re-written with a 15-page introduction to explain the absence of Phyllis in 21 books during the past 13 years.
Not until 1980, did ghost writer James Reasoner create a Mike Shayne Mystery Magazine novella of the Shayne's mental stress the entire week before Phyllis died. THIS comic attempted to explain this in two panels on page one.
Finally, notice on page 9, bottom right corner, a guy with an eye-patch. This would be Davis Dresser, the creator of 34 Mike Shayne books 1939 - 1959.
