I've replaced the incomplete version of "The Terrorists" story with a complete one.  The missing D66 tier was kindly supplied by Phillipe Ramet, following a couple of comments from others in another group about Wiseman and I not being able to find the missing tier. All serene now.

Having dug up some Buck Ryan comicbook covers for myself, I thought they might be of interest to some of you.  This is a selection only and although Buck Ryan stories were also reprinted in the Portuguese language title, "O Mosquito", I haven't come up with a cover for any of them.  A couple of interior pages are on some internet sites, but frustratingly no covers.  Perhaps he was never cover featured.  If anyone can turn up an example, that would be great.

Today, another Buck Ryan re-creation.  This time the layout is a bit different as it's 2 tiers high and widescreen, so this is by way of an experiment.  Wiseman came up with the goods, yet again, supplying bigger, clearer strips, so I decided to try a widescreen look. We'll wait to see if members screens have any problems.  If there are problems, I'll re-jig the file.

I think these are important books and the art Pierre Mouchot (Chott) is dynamic and worth looking at - even if you can't read the text. There is a much higher level of violence in these comics.
As I'm not sure who scanned the last 2 issues, I'm, sure Doc Mars will keep me right.  Au Secours.

This book really reminds me of Chott's other masked avenger, Fantax. Violence was definitely a calling card in both series. In one episode Fantax, leg caught in a trap, fought a bear (with his bear hands) and ended up bleeding like a stuck pig. He also relaxed after the battle by lighting up a cigarette. That scene made me realize how seldom the heroes in Golden Age American comics smoked cigarettes. The health issue wasn't yet on the public radar, and in the movies heroes smoked like chimneys; but in the comics most heroes limited themselves to smoking pipes (though never while in uniform).

Later addition: I see we have the lead-up to this episode (issue #27).

A number of European titles featured some rather graphic violence, and in Spain and Italy, the censors stepped in.  The Spanish strip, El Guererro del Antifaz was one such, and in Italy, early pocket libraries were extremely graphically violent.  Kriminal, well drawn by Magnus,  while enjoyable, was a bit much for the authorities.  Even more violent was Sadik.  Other titles were, Demoniak; Spettrus, Fantasm.  They were also available translated into French. If you can lay your hands on them, Kriminal is the one to go for.

I would love to see some of the fumetti-style supercriminals on here, if there are any that fall into public domain. Probably not, since AFAIK Diabolik kickstarted the whole supercrime genre (hailing back to the early pulp and film supercriminals like Fantomas and Dr. Mabuse) again in the mid-1960s. I'm thinking specifically of KILLING (or as he's now known in English translation, SADISTIK): http://morttodd.com/SADVD.pdf, but any French or Italian comics or fumetti along those lines.

Diabolik is still going strong with a new issue every month, a reprint and a second reprint, plus collections, hardbacks, specials.  Some good stories still appear. A diverting read.

Another Buck Ryan story this morning.  From 1950, and it seems to me that Zola is the one with the brains in this one. 
Wiseman did all the work researching and digging up the original tiers and without his efforts, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to compile the story.

Courtesy of Wiseman's efforts, we have another Buck Ryan tale - A Fishy Story - from 1950.  At the time, Britain still had rationing and there was a flourishing black market.  In fact, petrol rationing had just ended before this story was written and it wasn't until 1954 that meat and all other food rationing ended in Britain.
