I figured that out about Ebay after it happened one other time. I usually don't have time to monitor my bids so unless I can afford the Buy it Now option, I don't bother. Besides, my wife wouldn't appreciate me carting in even more crap!

I think it's been pointed out a few times that the optimal way to win an auction on eBay is not only to set your price in advance, but to only bid in the last second or two. By "sniping," you cut out everybody else's competitive desperation.

I know a few times, I've bid on something, then bid on it again immediately when it was out of my price range. That's some serious stupid. "Gee, someone else wants it. It's now worth more to me!"

One thing to consider is be the first bidder. Many people do not bid on an item just because it already has a bid. I have often been the only bidder and gotten GA books for a buck.

This is we do not have and neither does JVJ. I am current high bidder at $7.13 my max bid for the purpose of scanning. If anyone wants it to scan go for it or if I get out bid and you are willing to bid more for the cause or we could go together

Thanks guys. Most of the books I have gotten in the last few years have not been books that I collect. I get them just to scan. I will be sending some to JVJ that he does not already have. Since he does not have this issue he may be happy to get it after scanning. I think $20 is about all it is worth unless you think it is worth $30. Right now I will just up it to a $20

Hopefully you can score it for $20 -- but I'll kick in the $10 regardless. And sending it to Jim is a great idea and definitely one of the least things that we can do to show our appreciation for all that he has done for us.

Now if we could get enough people to chip in we could get a copy of Colossus for $2500 That and Green Giant are two books that I never expect to actually hold in my hands

No one else has chimed in and it looks like Jumbo is going to go for more than I think we should pay. They are not that uncommon. If some newbies want upgrades maybe they could chip in to a book fund. I would like to get this book it is a buy it now.
