A Welcome Guest - uploads from Guest User
« on: June 26, 2009, 02:07:43 PM »

Thanks to the mysterious Guest User we now
have a paper scan of CM Jr 74, 4C 761 with Howdy Doody,
A-1 3 with Texas Slim, Joe Palooka 118 and Terry and the Pirates 16.
Guys got a nice variety of good stuff. In case he/she reads this with their id in the topic, The uploaded Air Fighters v3#6 was actually Airboy which we already have and the Ellery Queen was SA not GA.
Also provided were 22 paper pages that I will be combining to upgrade Marvel Family 73

GU uploaded some edited nice bright looking scans of the Airboy stories. I left the original for those like myself who like the natural look.

Guest User also added Blue Beetle 13 (under Holyoke). But I think it's the same copy as what we already have, no?

Yes it is KB and at a MUCH larger file size.  I checked and GU's just tweaked the scans we already have on the site at a much more reasonable size.  Our BB13 isn't a bad scan either so I've removed GU's oversized version.

But check out his latest upload - All Great Jungle Adventures 1949
A Fox giant book with remaindered copies of AllTop16, JuJu18, Rulah 17 and Phantom Lady 23!  It's another Huge Scan but it's got some choice books in it for GGA fans.  :)

We just need 1 story from Rulah #17 now.  The first page of the first story would be nice, but for that we'd need a complete copy, anyway.

I'm going to start posting messages here in hopes that one day GU himself will read them.

GU, I've had to delete the last few uploads you've made.  Here's why.

PLANET COMICS and BLUE BEETLE 23 - both of these were 'GM' watermarked scans.  We appreciate you wanting to fill the holes in our online collection but the GM scans are not allowed.  Please do not upload anymore of them.

Kazanda- The Wild Girl and the Lost Continent Strips_1939 - these were from a 1970s reprint and original published in England.  We can't host anything printed beyond 1959 and the British PD laws differ from the US.  Sorry, we can't host the scans.

Amazing Man #nn - This is commonly shared on DC++ under the incorrect name.  It is actually Stars and Stripes #2 and is already on the site.  Our ORIGINAL file as made by Henry Peters is also much smaller.

GU, would you mind please not uploading retouched scans?  Could you perhaps upload them as you find them?  I know your versions have been brightened up for easier reading but they are also very large in the end.  Each page is about 1mb and that's twice as large as needed for reading them.  If an original truly is muddly to the point of unreadable sure post your tweaked version but Henry Peters is a scanner beyond reproach and his original S&S 2 is a perfectly fine set of scans at a reasonable file size.

Please don't think we aren't appreciative of your desire to share scans.  You've found some lovely books we are thrilled to host on the site but PLEASE, PLEASE read the FAQ and Books Not Allowed section here to save yourself some time uploading.

Thanks,
-Yoc

The "only one story" from KID ETERNITY #10.  It's a reprint from DETECTIVE COMICS.  Also, we have the whole comic on site.

Ah, these fiche were done by Rolster.  I already have it and my set is smaller.  I hope GU hasn't over adjusted these as they were pretty good for a fiche scan.
Note - the IBC is a one pg b&w ad for Spacehawk by Wolverton.

More uploads from GU that can't be hosted here -

Dynamite 003 - not PD
Planet 32 and 47 - 'GM' scans are not allowed

If only GU would read this and the FAQ.... *sigh*

And more uploads from GU we can't host -
Black Cat 63 - is not a PD book
Blue Beetle 036 - 'GM' scans are not allowed
Blue Beetle 027 (44mb!) - oversized re-edit of a book already on the site that looks fine to my eyes

More uploads from GU we can't host -

Boy Detective 03 - already on the site.
Lone Rider 03 - already on the site.
Buccaneers 01 - no such book published - we have a complete run as well.

BUT G.U. uploaded a real rarity as well that we COULD post to the site -
Best Comics #2 [Dec'39][landscape format]-68pg-c2c.

And for that he has our thanks!

That Buccaneers # 001 might be a Bell Canadian reprint.

GU didn't add any info on what it was and I missed that angle.

My bad.

All but 10 pages are now paper. I took GU's 42 paper pages scans and added the missing pages from Darkmark's fiche. Nice looking book

Sure, if you don't mind.
:)

And more unusable uploads from G.U.
Blue Bolt Weird Tales 119 - already on site in STAR section.

A welcome addition was Doll Man 040 (incomplete)-paper - missing txt pgs.
DM, if you wanted to add those missing pgs from the fiche while slimming things down that would be great as well.
