I know what you mean, and security is always a tradeoff, but how many people could love the site so much that they'll upload new material, but would refuse to log in? Especially when you consider that accounts can be essentially anonymous.
As usual, I'm more "thinking out loud" than arguing the point, so don't mind me unless you're investigating the decision.
